Unauthorized Charges for a Cancelled Subscription from Apple/App Store

Things about subscriptions;

⁃ Deleting an app does not cancel the subscription.

⁃ A trial subscription must be canceled more than 24 hours before the renewal date or it may renew.

⁃ Many subscriptions are set to renew automatically until you cancel them.

⁃ If you see multiple subscription offers, as long as you don’t select one, the subscription shouldn’t renew.

⁃ If you don’t see Cancel Subscription, the subscription is canceled and won't renew.

⁃ An expiration date means the current subscription has been canceled but is available to use until that date.

⁃ Use Resubscribe/Renew if you change your mind about canceling the subscription.

Sounds like you purchased the subscription or started a free trial that became a subscription where the payment method failed when attempting to be charged. That does not make the charge go away and the charge will still show as pending. You cannot get a refund on a pending charge and you will not be able to use the App Store while you still owe that money. You did authorize the charge by double clicking the side button with the amount showing on the screen, followed by verification using TouchID/FaceID or the Passcode.
