Error 10065 Trying To Mirror IPHONE 14 Netflix Movie To TV

I have an Iphone 14, and I am able to watch Netflix movies on it. I want to be able to mirror the movies to my TV - this is a smart TV purchased in 2024: Samsung, model = UN50DU8000F, version = AB03. I do not have a Nexflix account for the TV.

What I have done:

o Purchased an Apple Lightning To Digital AV Adapter, model A1438.

o Connected the adapter cable to my Iphone.

o Connected a HDMI cable to the adapter and to a HDMI port on the TV .

o When I powered on the Iphone and the TV, I got a message on the TV screeen about something being installed (or downloaded ?) - I don't remember exactly what was going on.

o When the above completed, I saw the same screens from the Iphone were also displayed on the TV. For example, when I looked at my Outlook email on the Iphone, I saw the same information on the TV screen.

I thought great, that was easy.

o Next I selected a movie to play from the Iphone. I get the following message on the TV screen:

"Cannot Play Video. The connected display is not supported (10065)"

Can someone help me out here ?

Is what I am trying to do even possible ?

Thank You

Thank you for the information. One of the links mentioned states I must have the ad free Netflix plan. I have the cheapest plan (not ad free). I could try upgrading my plan, but how do I know that is really the cause of my problem ?

You cannot be absolutely certain that this is the only possible cause of the problem, but you will have the problem as long as you do not upgrade your plan.

They say outright that

"Using a mobile device to watch Netflix on a TV isn't available with ad-supported experience or a Mobile plan.

If you have an ad-supported experience, you'll need to switch to an ad-free plan.

If you have a Mobile plan, you'll need to upgrade your plan to one that supports watching Netflix on a TV."

This strongly suggests that their app has code to support sending video to a TV – but that they have programmed their app to actively block that capability unless you pay them for an upgraded plan.

The message is so generic it really is no help. I tried searching for the message and error code, but so far not finding anything. Anyone know what this error code really means ?

"Cannot Play Video. The connected display is not supported (10065)"

The 10065 is obviously some sort of internal error code, and a generic one at that. It's clear from the troubleshooting steps that you can get it either if they don't like your plan, if they don't like your adapter, or both.

"Cannot Play Video: The connected display is not supported" seems pretty clear as to the consequence.

Their Support page claims the A1438 adapter is supported, but if you think it isn't, you'll need to take that up with them. I don't subscribe to Netflix or have that adapter, and am not going to go and pay money to get either just to provide free Support for Netflix.

According to the Netflix support article,

"f you see A1438 or A1621, your adapter is supported. Try using a different cable or HDMI port on your TV. If that doesn't work, follow Apple's steps to fix a different video connection issue."

I found this:

Digital AV Lightning Adapter not working post-IOS 17 – Apple Community

where someone facing a different problem (their iPhone 14 Pro Max didn't recognize an A1438 adapter after they upgraded to iOS 17) resolved it by connecting the adapter to power. (I don't see any reason why that would have any bearing on your issue, but thought I'd mention it just in case.)
