Macbook Air M1 - Account Locked

HI all, my Macbook Air account is locked (this is no my day computer) and now I can't login. I tried resetting the password but I get Reset Password Failed (The supplied Apple Account was uanble to unlock this volume)... I am using my Apple ID that is linked to my profile to reset. I also thought to try to factory reset my laptop but in order to do that I need to put in the password.. so I am stuck again since it's locked. I am looking for additional options on what to do.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... at current I have overpriced brick :D

Having satisfied yourself that your Apple Account credentials are correct, then return to that locked-out Mac and start over with If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support.

There are many steps, most of which begin with "if you see..." so some of them will not be applicable. Proceed by following each of those steps, and in the specified order, which eventually lead to If you can't reset your Mac login password - Apple Support. They lead to even more "if" steps like "if you still can't reset your password" etc, which lead to erasing the Mac.

That will work, but just prior to erasing it you might want to contact Apple Support to make sure there is nothing else you can do.

I understand, and I am at a loss to explain the reason for that "unable to unlock this volume" for the same reason as you: it doesn't explain why, probably because it can't.

That's the reason for contacting Apple Support. They are likely to have some suggestions that I haven't thought of. The worst that could happen is they tell you to erase the Mac, something you already know, but if you're persistent or fortunate enough perhaps someone there can explain the reason or at least speculate why your Apple Account can't be used to unlock the Mac. Without an explanation I would be just as frustrated.

Thanks John Galt for your help! I've tried all these options and they lead me getting stopped even after I authenicate myself via iPhone.. for example on password reset.. I end up with the following message. "The supplied Apple Account was unable to unlock this volume" which is odd since this is the same Apple account I used on my phone and setup for my laptop. I was willing to factory reset my laptop (I won't lose much since I only had it a few months and not my primary machine) but that requires putting in a password which again it's locked :D.. sorry if this sounds whiny but I'm just frustrated.

I was thinking of using my iPhone to remotely delete my data on my macbook but I think due to the security feature that exist nowadays it will just make my laptop a brick becuase it will require me to validate myself before I can access the hard drive... If anyone know it would be appreicate
