I added a gmail account to my iphone and it seems like in doing that I've erased any contacts less than 10 years old. I've tried restoring but that hasn't worked so that makes me think they weren't stored in the cloud but somewhere else. Is there a way to tell where my contacts were being stored so I can retrieve them?

Check if the email account has been removed from the iOS mail app.
Add the email account that stores your contacts in the IOS mail app and enable Contacts.
What is your default Contacts account? If none, please add an email account and enable contacts.
