Thoughts on MacBook Pro vs Windows laptop for design applications?

Hi team

Have been using Macbook Air M1 chip, 8-core GPU for sometime but mentioned applications dont work properly. Its for my daughter - she s a design student and thinking of switching to Windows Laptop with RTX4070 to get the right support.

We explored Macbook Pro M4 or M4 Pro with 24GB; the retailer mentioned it would be better to go with Macbook Pro for the above mentioned applications- any thoughts.

Using Solidworks, Keyshot, Adobe Illustrator, Lightroom and Indesign, Figma on Macbook Pro m4

Buy your daughter whichever laptop will run the applications and courseware that is/will be required by the school.

You'll be doing her no favor to buy a Mac when the course focuses on PC apps.

Check with the school and even other previous students to get their advice.

If the support from the school is better for PC, then I'd advise that you go with the flow and set up your daughter for success in her studies.

I think your daughter has good instincts. I wonder where she got that? 😉

She needs to be 100% compatible with the course of study computing requirements, other students, her professors, and the school's IT Support. If a PC is recommended, get her a PC. School is hard enough without having to worry about her computer compatibility and support.
