Notes app flashes but doesn't open on my Mac

I had same problem. Fixed it by

1. Turn off iCloud syncing for Notes temporarily.
2. Open Notes (it should open ok but there may not be any notes there.
3. Create a new note (can be anything).
4. Close notes.
5. Turn iCloud sync for Notes back on.
6. Open notes -- it should be working now. This fixed it for me anyway.

if you have an issue with Notes, hold the Option key down when you launch the Notes.app and compare your results.
