M1 Pro MacBook Pro Not Powering On – MagSafe Light Pulsing Orange Continuously
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my M1 Pro MacBook Pro (purchased about a year ago, just out of warranty). Here's a detailed description of the problem:
Initial Issue:
- A couple of months ago, after updating macOS, my MacBook wouldn't power on afterward.
- Plugging in the MagSafe charger caused the light to pulse orange, and the laptop remained unresponsive.
- After leaving it on charge for about 8 hours, the MagSafe light turned green, and the MacBook powered on.
- Upon powering on, it prompted me to select a boot drive. I selected the usual boot drive, and it worked fine.
Recurring Problem:
- Over the next few weeks, this issue happened again a few times.
- Each time, I had to leave it charging for hours before the green light appeared, and the laptop turned on.
- I checked the battery health and it had dropped to around 75% (was 90%+ before these issues started).
- However, even when the light turned green, the MacBook sometimes wouldn’t power on, and the MagSafe light would return to pulsing orange.
Current Situation:
- Now, the MagSafe light pulses orange continuously, turns green after many hours but then goes back to pulsing orange when I press the power button.
- The MacBook won't power on at all.
I'm not sure if this is related to the battery, the logic board, or something else entirely. I’ve tried different chargers, I've taken it in to the apple store, they tried connecting another laptop to it in order to wipe it and reset the firmware but it wasn't showing up on their laptop. They opened it up but saw no signs of damage.
Apple store then quoted me £650 (!!!!) to have it sent away and repaired and recommened that I just buy a refurnished one off Amazon.
Very disappointing experience as this is my first MacBook and it only lasted a year despite taking good care of it.
Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
