I need to know which adaptor to buy to link up my MacBook Air
macOS High Sierra
version 10.13.6
We need the actual model / year form About this Mac, not the OS it's running. Though running 10.13.6 means it should have a thunderbolt 2 port.
So you would need a Thunderbolt 2 / Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter or cable.
For example: click here ➜ Amazon Basics Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable, 1080p, Gold-Plated - Amazon.com
with my TV in order to use my Apple
TV box for screen monitoring
It is not clear what you mean by that.
You cannot connect an Apple TV box to your Mac. You can connect the Apple TV box directly to the TV using an HDMI cable though.

What you're posting is confusing. If by "Apple TV box" you mean a hardware Apple TV, that only has an HDMI output so your TV needs to have an HDMI input. If you mean that you want to connect your MacBook Air directly to your TV, we would need to know what specific model of MacBook Air you have and what inputs your TV has.
Usually, you just plug an appropriate from the Mac to the Tv.
What model of MacBook Air do you have exactly?
What ports does it have?
You may need an adapter.
What exactly do you mean by "Apple Box"?
What Apple box?
If you explain your issue clearly and in detail someone may be able to help.
OK, many people do that. Now, what exactly is your question or what are you having difficulty with?
