MacBook Pro won't sign in after earthquake/power surge

My MacBook Pro will not let me sign in post an Earthquake. It was plugged in when the Earthquake happened. Could it have shorted the Laptop?

I think a power surge would have been a lot more catastrophic than that. The fact it turns on at all tends to rule out that kind of damage, but of course it leaves the question of rejecting a password unanswered.

Try pressing the Mac's Caps Lock key (once) and try that password again. It is possible (though unlikely) a power surge affected its keyboard to some unknown extent. Perhaps it affected the power button also.

If you don't get anywhere If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support is the standard of care in such circumstances.
