The fan on my 2020 MacBook Air is constantly running anytime I use it as well as it having a pretty noticeable lag when doing anything on it. any insight of what would be wrong with it?

Did you try resetting the SMC controller?
Did you try booting up into safe mode?
Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
Do you have a plastic keyboard cover over the keys? If so get rid of it.
Air needs to flow around the keys.
Look at Activity Monitor - what apps are running that need not be.
Run EtreCheck see what it says.
I used to use istat menus app to control my fan to better cool it.
Look for an M2 MacBook Air, it does not need a fan and is always silent when being used.
