iOS 18.3 update causing unexpected shutdown on my iPhone

I updated my phone last night to 18.3. This morning, after getting the phone setup and doing chores, the phone just shut off on its own. I could not get it to turn back on without connecting the charger, yet the battery was 83% charged. Is this a software glitch in the update?

Hi!bigness1970! I experienced the same issue after updating to iOS 18.3. I upgraded my iPhone 16 yesterday, and the update process was surprisingly fast—only took about 7 minutes. But in the past few hours, my phone also has been shutting down for no reason ..... At first I thought it was a hardware issue, tried to restarts it, no luck and it even gets stuck in a boot loop. I suspect that the rapid installation process may have caused system instability. but now since I fixed it,it's likely a software problem😁.

You can try some of the solutions I found:

1. **Force restart your iPhone** – Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button. Hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears.

2. **Reinstall iOS using a computer** – This worked for me, you can see this artical. I used my computer to fix this restart issue , and my iPhone stopped shutting down. You can try the same method.

Maybe it’s Starlink. iOS 18.3 uses Starlink satellites. I don’t want to update.

Dead wrong. iOS 18.3 does NOT use Starlink.

  1. Starlink connectivity is ONLY available for T-Mobile subscribers and ONLY if the subscriber voluntarily joins the beta test program.
  2. If you are not a T-Mobile subscriber...
  3. If you are a T-mobile subscriber but have not joined the beta test program...
  4. Your iPhone running iOS 18.3 does NOT connect to Starlink satellite and will not be affected in any way.

So stop with the disinformation please.

I ended up buying a new phone 16 pro max because the other phone is completely dead for 2 days now just rebooting. I believe all of those issues are because of the new iOS AKA APPLE INTELLIGENCE where we are users who are witnessing a no intelligence rather than major bugs. Of course they will not rollback the buggy software because their share and the promises of the next 10 years to come full of intelligence would all crash. I believe this is a typical scenario where management put a lot of pressure on the engineering teams to rollout the new features of apple intelligence with a compromised quality

This 18.3.1 update on my iPhone 16 pro max is so frustrating charging 3 x a day it drains sitting with the screen off. Drops calls,

also as I am talking it goes in an out, at first thought one of us was in a bad spot. Nope not when we’re in our houses with full WiFi, The phone has a mind of its own. Screens sometimes work or don’t, things pop up. Then when you need them to nope, calendar just freaked out. The words occasionally are shaking. Maybe they are afraid too.

this similar occurrence happens to by boyfriend a few hours ago, he has the iphone 13 (possibly pro max not sure) & his phone screen suddenly went completely black then had green lines across it. sometimes the screen pops back up but then it turns red, then black again. he’s tried restarting, doing the volume power button trick, nothing works. i’m hoping that if his is because of the new update, that it gets fixed quickly.

Thx. The battery was old but I was plugged in power during the update and the restart.

More amusing; I only did the update so soon after it was announced

(learned ages ago it doesn’t pay to be an “early adopter”😆😳)

b/c an online Apple support tech insisted I update when I called to complain that pressing the mic to record audio to iMessages resulted in garbage sound quality compared to recording in Apple’s audio memo app.

Moderators refusing to acknowledge issues is very trumpy. Why is it that my MacBook still works fine and my family who has not updated their software has devices working fine? What is your reply now that your update has crippled my phone? I guess this is apples' way of saying we need to bring back wired devices? Oh, and my newly updated and bricked iPhone tells me I am less than 10%, unplug it let it sit and if it hasn't shut down, back up to 75%?
