I recently went to use my mac book after a couple of weeks of it sitting. I had to charge it to start it. And I went to use my password I had always used and now it doesn’t recognize the password and doesn’t give me any option to reset.

As you mentioned it is couple of weeks you have not used your MacBook ,you might be forgotten the screen password.
You can Reset the Password go to Recovery mode and under this navigate to utilities folder and there you can find the terminal .
open the terminal and reset the password without losing any data .
