I'll even go one step further and say do not download any free or low cost security software. Any security company that is going to give you their app for free is getting something from you. They have not invested their time and money, just to give it all away. What they are getting, is your personal information that you allow them to access. The Privacy Page in the App Store, shows the information that the app collects from you. They are selling it to others to generate revenue. That is how they are making money by giving you the app for free and defeats the purpose of providing you security.

In addition to the excellent advice already provided, consider the following:

• Make sure that you have a passcode on your phone.
• Make sure that you have enabled two-factor authentication on your Apple Account.
• Make sure that you have multi-factor authentication enabled on any banking apps or other apps that store sensitive information.
• Enable Stolen Device Protection.
