Deleting photos after you have placed them in an album

I do not understand why once you have placed your photos into albums why you cannot delete them from your main stream. What is the object of having 16,000 photos when they are in an album and just simply a duplicate???

The photos are not duplicated. What you see in the Album is just a link to the actual photo in your Library. That way you can have photos in multiple albums without them taking up anymore storage space. This is consistent with the Music app too, so you can add songs to your Playlists and they remain in your Library. The song is not duplicated either and you can add the same song to many playlists without taking up additional storage space.
