Select third party streaming devices will get a special edition Apple TV+ app (note the Plus in the app name), for use with Apple TV+ (and MLS), but unfortunately not for use with Store content (buy or rent), nor add-on in-app subscription channels.

Get the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app on your smart TV or streaming device - Apple Support

The difference between the (full) Apple TV app and the (specialized) Apple TV+ app, is what types of services they can access. This app edition availability is predetermined for each device and model, unfortunately it is not user choice.

User with setups that do not support the (full) Apple TV app, may consider connecting a different HDMI streaming device that does support this full app edition. That can be an Apple TV box, PlayStation (4, 5), Xbox (One, One S, X, S), ‘Chromecast with Google TV’, or Nvidia Shield TV. In other countries, it also works on Roku and Fire TV devices, but I couldn’t find confirmation for these two devices for Switzerland.

Please confirm your app edition.

I have received a new Swisscom TV Box.

In the meantime, the Apple TV app has also been updated.

Now the paid rental movie can be selected. The message that it can no longer be loaded no longer appears.

But when the movie is played, the spinning circle appears endlessly.

If I play the movie on the mobile device instead of the TV app and stop it after 1 minute 30 seconds. I can then watch the movie on the TV Box from 1 minute 30 seconds. If I rewind the movie on the TV box to the beginning, only the spinning circle runs again.

I have now received a new TV Box from Swissom. It seems that the AppleTV app has also been updated.

Now there is no longer a message, but when I start the paid Apple rental movie, the little circle spins endlessly. If I set the movie to about 1 minute 30 seconds in the TV app, I can also start the movie from 1 minute 30 seconds on the TV box. It simply cannot be started from the beginning. The problem has also occurred with other SwisscomTVBox users. However, the Swissom technician was able to start the rental movie internally. He says the fault lies with Apple. But I wonder why an error that only occurs with some Swissom customers can only be caused by Apple?
