Connected to WiFi, but can’t update or start safari
I have an older IMac, running OSX 10.8 with it being connected to my WiFi, but says I can’t update anything or start safari when I open it. Anyone have a solution?

You are running a well obsolete version of Mac OS X on hardware that is itself obsolete. There is no fix that will allow that unsupported combination to securely access today's internet.
The last iMac that could run OS X 10.8 was the 2013 model that is now thirteen (!) years old. That computer may be upgraded to macOS 10.15 Catalina, but your problems will continue as that OS is obsolete as well and support for any secure browser is due to evaporate within months.
Your Mac has lived a long life of service and wants to retire. You should let it.
Plan to replace it soon.

I would add that you likely can install another browser that should work such as Firefox.
