System Data is too big

This System Data is from late iMac 2015, so basically 10 years. As you can see, it takes up around 15% of my storage.

I want to buy a laptop with 256 GB. Since it's not possible to delete the System Data, how do I know that the 256 GB will be enough for storage, as the size of System Data seems unpredictable and you can't just delete at least some of it.

You don't want to buy a laptop with 256 GB storage.

The 1 TB drive of your iMac is already nearly half full. Don't kid yourself thinking you won't need at least 500 GB moving forward with your new machine. The storage of the new Macs cannot be upgraded after purchase. The Community is littered with posts from people who have discovered the sad fact that 256 GB is not enough storage.

While 256 GB may be fine for iPhones and iPads, it isn't a good foundation for a laptop. Buy nothing less than 512 GB model.

That looks pretty good. When most people discover this "System Data", it is many times larger than this.

That would be a very bad idea.

256 GB will not be enough for storage. You need 1 TB for storage.
