Outside of Educational and Enterprise establishments, iPad and iPhone are principally intended to be single-user devices - and are not intended to shared in the same manner as you may be accustomed when using a Windows PC or Mac computer - which has multiple user profiles/accounts. Attempting to share a device with a common (i.e. shared) AppleID leads to all kinds of unexpected issues.
Every user of Apple devices should have their own AppleID. This is essential to maintain intended separation of identity and activities. Unintended sharing of information and data, in particular account credentials, will have unforeseen consequences.

Now that your individual identifies have their own AppleID, you might then consider using Apple's Family Sharing features - with you as the family organiser and adding your spouse as a family member - this allowing you to selectively share purchased Apps, subscriptions and Apple services between users:
