today I purchased Apple Music and Apple TV+ subscription through student discount which is starting after the free trial. Now on opening the Apple TV I still do have option of buy or rent on movies/series. I'm new in this so don't have any clue what it could be, If anyone can help??

Correct. The Apple TV+ subscription grants you access to the Apple TV+ content only. It does not make 3rd party content from other studios or media companies free to watch. Those remain available for rent or purchase.
Look for the TV+ logo for content you can watch under the Apple TV+ subscription. Or go to the Apple TV+ section specifically in the Apple TV app on your Mac or the tv.apple.com website.
In some instances some commercial movies as shown in the image below, may be made available in the Apple TV+ section to watch for free, but that is only for a specific period of time and tend to change frequently or not be available.
