Safari screen lockup scam

Hi all,

This is not a question, but rather a report of what I have just experienced for the first time, and to warn others.

I guess I accidentally clicked a link while Googling for the local RMV website. oops...

The link took me to a screen like the attached, saying my Mac was locked for trying to access a webpage containing a malware, and I need to contact Apple Support via a number displayed to unlock it.

At first, WFH?, and then I slowly checked things out such as if the number displayed was actually an Apple Support number. NOPE.

The IP address was raw without any domain name. NOPE. NOPE.

Initially, it seemed that it would not allow me close the webpage and saying restarting my Mac would not unlock my Mac and date will be lost. Then, I realized that all I had to do was to click the red X to close the window, and click the blue "Leave page" button, and scary window closed.

I did remove the webpage from my Safari browsing history, erased the Safari cache, and restarted my Mac, just in case.

Hope I won't encounter that again.

Be careful out there!
