How can I fix iMac camera that won't turn on

I have a couple of Zoom meetings a month, and my iMac (last generation with Intel chip) has always worked well. Last month, though, the camera on the iMac hasn’t turned on, and I found that the camera on my iPhone was being used instead. I didn’t change any settings that I know of.

Go to Settings  > General > AirPlay & Continuity, then turn off Continuity Camera, should fix.

I.don’t.know…but can confirm that many settings do mysteriously turn on or off especially after upgrades.

It’s sneaky, pushy, but there’s nothing one can do about it other than to heave a tired sigh ”C’mon, Apple 🧐” and set them back when discovered. Too clever by half as they say, but easily caught.

Known culprits: Game Center, which will even log you on with an Apple-assigned handle, iCloud, Private WiFi Address, “Recommended for you” and until recently Bluetooth, which would always come up On after an upgrade even when set off. They’ve replaced that with a prompt for “Stolen Device Protection” even if it was previously declined. Go figure.

I police these settings after every upgrade, highly recommended. Best to keep a tight leash…all the best.
