Seems you may have more than 5 Gb stored in iCloud, (maybe less than the 50 Gb) ... you may want to download or archive what is synced there if you do not want to lose whatever is still in sync with device(s) / computer(s) etc.

.

ie: Unless sync of excess apps data is turned off in iCloud, anything over 5Gb would likely be deleted from all computers / devices where it is in sync., if it wasn't greyed out,

For safe-keeping: You can: Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support

How to: Check your iCloud storage on iCloud.com - Apple Support see if you can have less than the 5Gb stored

Eg: says:

  1. If you downgrade to the free iCloud plan, you will no longer have access to iCloud+ features like Hide My Email, Private Relay, and HomeKit Secure Video support. (2 Not all features are available in all countries or regions.
