'Printer is in use' error when printing from MacBook Air to HP printer

Trying to print from my MacAir to HP but getting message 'Printer is in use" Yet I can copy on the printer. I tried restarting laptop twice. Help!

Additional information needed.

Which exact HP printer model? How is it connected?

Are you using the macOS 13 Ventura indicated by the equipment line?

If a Wi-Fi router is involved, have you tried to power-cycle the router and the printer as well?

Can you confirm the model?


HP doesn’t list that “HP office Jet 2500 series“ model.


Might that be LaserJet 2500, or OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer, or a DesignJet model, maybe?


No mention of AirPrint in the tech specs HP OfficeJet 250 printer either, other than in what may be generic-to-HP the legal fine print.


That HP OfficeJet 250 printer looks to be entirely dependent on HP printer drivers too, without any other printing paths, no IPP/IPPS, and no AirPrint.
