Apple TV app on OnePlus Android TV - cannot sign in

The Apple TV app on my OnePlus android TV will not allow anyone to sign in. When I launch the app, the free version loads and I am able to scroll and play trailers just fine. If I click Sign In, there is a brief loading screen and then it immediately says:

Something went wrong

There is a problem with the connection. Try again later.

Below that are two buttons; Not now and Try again. Try again just fails again and again and again repeatedly. Not now loads the main app window which shows all of the shows and content.

All other apps (Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime, etc) all work without any problems. Apple TV also loads content and plays trailers fine, but just refuses to sign in.

I've tried several things and nothing fixes the problem. Uninstalled/Reinstalled the Apple TV app, cleared the cached, cleared the data, factory reset the TV, reset my wifi connection.

There is no issue with my Apple TV accounts as I’m able to sign in and stream on other devices like MacBook, iPhone and even the play station.

Apple support has said it’s an issue with the TV and OnePlus support hasn’t been able to give me any help. Does anyone have a similar issue and could help?
