Note that manufacturers may use the same file extension for a number of RAW files with different formats. It is generally the type of camera that generated the file that counts for checking compatibility lists.

Adobe does not use the Raw support built into macOS. Instead, they use their own Raw support code.

That would probably be Sony Alpha Raw digital camera image. Preview should be able to open such a file, as probably can Adobe Photoshop and perhaps other apps.
