How do I determine if DO NOT DISTURB on iPhone 14 Pro Max was enabled remotely or due to hacking?

Found phone with DO NOT DISTURB. I didn’t do it. Had to research to take it off. Could it have been done remotely or was it hacked?

Nope, that won't do it. Either it was turned on your device with someone that has your Passcode or there is another device that is signed into your account with your Apple ID that shares the setting with your device. Go to Settings > [name on top], and scroll to the bottom to see the list of devices signed into your account. If you do not recognize any of them, tap to remove and then change your password to your Apple Account.

If you have more than one Apple device sharing the same Apple ID and you have them set to share Focus, then changing it on one will change it on the other. Barring that, the most likely explanation is that you turned it on accidentally or that you have a schedule that you forgot about. If I'm working from home, Focus on my phone turns on several times a day. It's because my cat walks across my computer keyboard and steps on the Focus key.

Unless someone was willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to remotely access your phone, it was not set by remotely by a hacker. And what earthly reason would a a hacker have for turning on Focus?

First and foremost, an iPhone cannot be hacked. The only way is jail breaking where your iPhone must physically be in the hands of the hacker. Hacking also requires lots of money and expertise, which is why they don't target the average person, but rather high status people. Also if someone were to hack your iPhone, they would be going for your personal information, credit card numbers, etc. Not to turn off a Focus in place, that doesn't do much for them.

A possible reason for Do Not Disturb automatically turning on could be because of a Focus Schedule or Focus Smart Activation. With a Schedule it will automatically turn on a Focus at a specific time or location or when you open a specific app. With Smart Activation your iPhone will use on-device intelligence to determine when a Focus should be on.

How would turning on Focus give anyone access to "company trade secrets?"

If you are someone who has information that someone might be willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to acquire, your security needs are probably beyond the scope of this forum. However, you could start with Lockdown Mode. Note that Lockdown mode will seriously limit the capabilities of your phone. It is designed for those very few individuals such as high profile activists, journalists or politicians who would be at greater risk than most of us.
