Best Mac for Smooth Video Editing?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to upgrade my Mac for better video editing performance. I work with editing apps like Final Cut Pro and sometimes use third-party software for color grading and effects. I want something that handles 4K editing smoothly without lag.

Would you recommend the latest MacBook Pro with M3, or should I go for a Mac Studio? Any personal experiences or tips on the best setup for video editing would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance! 😊

Get the most powerful machine you can afford. Whether that is a laptop or a desktop depends a lot on how you use it. If you want flexibiliy in moving around, obviously a laptop is the way to go. The MacBook Pros (14" and 16") have XDR screens which enable editing of HDR video - to me that is a huge plus in their favour. I have a three year old first generation M1 Max with 64GB of memory and it still handles 4K and most 8K video really well in FCP and Resolve. It still flies with Photoshop and Lightroom. The base model at that time would definitely not be faring so well now (or ever in fact) so in my opinion going for the base model of anything is false economy unless one is doing very undemanding work.
