The change would need to come from the USGS database that Maps uses for the data you see. Congress can change the database, but users cannot. Have you talked to your Congressional Representatives?
Similar to the Weather app, Apple is not a weather forecaster, they simply use the data that is provided to them from the regional sources.

Because Apple complies with the law where it operates, and changing the name back to the Gulf of Mexico would require them to violate an executive order, which they would not do.
You can report an Issue with Apple Maps about any location you have a concern with:
Open Maps
Navigate to the Location, e.g. Gulf of Amera
Click on the Location. A menu will appear with several options.
Click on "Report an Issue". Follow the steps to provide more details.

This is not an issue with Apple Maps, but rather an executive order which issued this name change.

No error, it is now name Gulf of America, if you reside in the United States, outside it still Gulf of Mexico.
There is no way to change it, unless you move out of the United States.
The Gulf of Mexico is an existing location which first appeared on a world map 475 years ago. Changing the name without including “formally the Gulf of Mexico“ will further add to the geographical ignorance of the US population. An executive order does not dictate that Apple Maps change the name on their application.

Shouldn't it have said on the map for these last 475 years "formerly Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl?"
Why isn’t it easy to change back to Gulf of Mexico?
This is not an error, but rather an executive order that the President signed to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. This will only be seen for Apple Maps users residing in America.
You're correct Zachyy. The steps I suggested above are not going to change the name of the location. It's just feedback that Apple will collect about this location.
Gotcha.
