iPhone 11 Pro Max - No bars!

I have read that this is a problem that happens to many owners of this version of the iPhone 11 pro max. Intermittently and unpredictably, the phone drops the connection, and no bars are available. The fix has been to put the phone in Airplane Mode for a bit, and the connection returns when Airplane Mode is turned off.

This is just fine, but it doesn't FIX the problem. I have missed important calls and some calls did not go through, plus many other annoying things because of this problem.

It seems that Apple should do something to correct this serious defect. Does anyone know if a true fix is available?

Thanks,

iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 18

It isn’t a defect. If you are out of range of your network (such as the interior room of a building or an elevator) and the phone loses a network connection it will wait a few minutes before trying to connect again, because the process of finding a network uses a huge amount of energy, and would run the battery down quickly. And putting the phone in Airplane mode for a few seconds starts the search process over. If you are connected to Wi-Fi you should enable Wi-Fi calling (you need to call your carrier if your phone doesn’t have it), so you can make and receive calls even if your network signal is too weak or non-existent.

Hi, Lawrence,

Thanks for your response. No, this is not what is happening. I am just sitting in my house or car, not a building or elevator, and here's the real test. The bars on my iPad and my husband's phone are fine. Just mine are non-existent. This is a known problem in the iPhone 11 Pro Max as well as a known fix. If you google it, you will see lots of complaints about this problem.

Thanks.
