Required iOS 14 when installing apps in iphone 6 plus

The iPhone 6 Plus only supports up to iOS 12.5.7 and cannot be updated to iOS 14. Since iOS 14 is required for certain apps, you won't be able to install or update them directly on your iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple released the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014 – nearly ten and a half years ago. It ran iOS 8 then. iOS 12 is the end of the line.

The obsolete iPhone 6 Plus lacks the hardware to run modern versions of iOS.

  • The iPhone 6 Plus has 1 GB of RAM. Every iPhone that can run something later than iOS 12 has at least 2 GB. Every iPhone that can run iOS 17 or 18 has at least 3 GB (and most have more).

  • The iPhone 6 Plus has no Neural Engine. Every iPhone that can run iOS 16, 17, or 18 has one.

If your goal was to run modern apps, you should have saved the money you spent on your purchase of this used, obsolete phone – and put it towards the purchase of an iPhone compatible with iOS 18.

App Incompatibility and Inoperability:

Take this as a good reason to upgrade. The Developer has changed the requirements because there is new hardware in newer phones, and those features can’t be used in an iPhone 6 Pls

Did you have a question?

Or did you want to let us know that you understand that the iPhone 6 Plus cannot run many modern apps? In many cases, you will not be able to get an old version of the app that is compatible with the iPhone 6 Plus. Your choices will be to find a Web-based alternative (IF you can), to do without the app, or to buy a new phone.

You may have recently purchased an obsolete iPhone 6 Plus on the used market. That's on you.

Apple discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2016 – nearly eight and a half years ago. There might have been some new ones in stock at Apple Authorized Resellers for a little while after that – but even those resellers would have gotten rid of their remaining inventory a long time ago.

The oldest iPhones in Apple's new lineup are the SE (3rd generation), 14, and 14 Plus. All of them are compatible with iOS 18, and if you ordered one today, it would probably ship with some version of iOS 18 already installed.

The Certified Refurbished iPhone store in the U.S. currently lists nothing older than the iPhone 13 series. All the iPhone 13 and 14 series phones in the Certified Refurbished store can run iOS 18. (The one thing they can't run would be Apple Intelligence - you need a 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or 16-series phone for that.)

I see no evidence that Apple is "still selling" the iPhone 6 Plus.

What's the solution?

There is none. What part of You don't. You purchased an obsolete phone that won't run most of the iPhone apps did you not understand?

and why still selling out dated iphones if some of applicaitons not supported?

Apple hasn't sold that model since Sept. 2016. The sale is between you and whoever you purchased it from, it has nothing to do with Apple

But how to install applications from App Store ? I recently purchased iPhone 6 Plus

———-

Installing Applications on the App Store:

If it’s available to you, you’d have to tap “Get” and see what pops up from there. If it’s dulled out, then it’s just not an option.

Getting it From the Developer:

If you can find out who the Developer is in the app’s site of the App Store, and then ask the Developer if they have anything on their end that works(perhaps an alternative, if not exactly what you are looking for).

Don’t Purchase Apps from a Third-Party:

When getting an app, don’t purchase if from any olde Web site. I recommend purchasing it from none other than Apple or the Developer, as a way to avoid scams and such.

In all…Take this as a good reason to upgrade to a much more recent iPhone model. Apple typically provides support for their hardware and software for 7 years, and then ends it, being technology has changed so much. Your device was released way pre-COVID, and since that outbreak, technology has taken a major rise to meet the needs of consumers(ie hardware and software running faster because of working out-of-the-house.

Apple sold iPhone 6, 6 Plus and 6s Plus in India and Southeast Asia until well into 2019. This was to hit specific price points in this markets and be competitive with other manufacturers.

So MacTracker's database is not complete in that regards. Still, even a discontinuation date some time in 2019 would mean that Apple stopped selling the iPhone 6 Plus more than five years ago.

MacTracker is accurate for the US and EU etc. However, Apple has continued manufacturing and selling some older models for markets in developing nations. It’s a market entry tool to offer quality devices at a very affordable price.

iPhone 13 was just discontinued in India in September of 2024. That’s why I start a lot of these conversations asking where did they buy it and is it still in warranty. 😀
