Do I need to renew my AppleCare+ protection plan?

I have received a text message saying my AppleCare protection plan needs to be updated. Is this correct?

If you think the text might be a scam disregard the text message and check the support coverage on the device itself (iPhone?).

Go to Settings > General > About

On my Mac with AppleCare+ there is a statement that my coverage expires on a future date, and there is a button called Details for more information.

I do not have AppleCare+ for my iPhone, but a statement of AppleCare+ coverage on an iPhone must be the same or similar.
