Why can't I set a purchased song as my iPhone ringtone?
I purchased a song in the ITunes Store and it won’t let me set my ring tone as the song I just paid for.

That's correct. You needed to purchase a Tone version of the song. A full song cannot be used as a ringtone. Ringtones have to be no longer than 30 seconds. You could use Garage Band and save a 30 second section of the song, which you could use as a ringtone. Or a far simpler, and less painful thing would be to go the iTunes Store, and open the Tone Store, look for the song as a ringtone, and buy it for about $1.

You must convert a music track to a ringtone; you can’t use the raw track→Create a custom ringtone on your iPhone - Apple Support
