I am unable to play music files on Sonos after iMac goes into screensaver

I’m aware of the issues with Sonos but I have a different problem sharing with Sonos

i have followed the recommended set up all the files have sharing enabled as well as SmB

i can open Sonos and see my files even album artwork but if I try to share it says it can’t find the files or the path has changed, if I update my music library via the Sonos app it all works but if I stop listening to music and the iMac goes into screen saver the files won’t play again, can anyone suggest a fix.

Sonos fixed many issues with the last update, when was the last time you updated your Sonos app on all of your devices?

If you want to play your music library several ways. When I do I simply use Airplay, also I (and most experienced users) do not put their computers to sleep. We use the following:

  1. System Settings app
  2. Click Lock Screen from sidebar
  3. Select Turn Display off when Inactive and set the time to the desired amount, I use 3 minutes what you use is up to your.

The reason we use this method rather than sleep is experience has taught us that Sleeping the computer tends to create other issues.

If these don't help, then I'd suggest you contact Sonos's support which I've found is excellent.

Your post is EXTREMELY vague, you need to be specific. When you make comments such as "I’m aware of the issues with Sonos.... " that tells us absolutely nothing at all.

I use Sonos speakers (currently we have about 8 in our home) to stream music and also to use AirPlay to play music, movies or anything else that has sound to the speakers. This works perfectly.

So please be specific on what you are attempting to do and what issues you are running into.

I thought the issue with the latest Sonos upgrade was well known and I was trying to say the issue where Sonos won’t accept the connection with the iTunes music file is not my issue

my issue

every time I try to play a tune in my music library via Sonos I have to wake up my computer and update the music library or it won’t play the song, I can see the files even the album artwork but when I try to play it it says it can’t find it, if I update the library it plays fine until my iMac goes to sleep

So yesterday all was working I can view the files select the album and play individual tracks, this morning the screen was blank but all came to life as soon as I moved the mouse, entered password and Sonos won’t play any songs on the main computer where the files are stored or by the app on the phone, I can see the albums and album artwork I can drill down to the songs but it won’t play them I get the message

unable to play ‘song name.mp3’ -access to //mikes-imac/music denied

When I try to update the music library it says the files are not there or the device is switched off

no changes were made since yesterday all that’s happened is the computer went into standby due to no activity

any help gratefully appreciated
