How do I create a Smart Folder for photos not yet in a folder on iPhone?

I want to create a Smart Folder to show only photos that are not yet in a folder. I saw the answer in a previous question with the same title as this. It has a screen shot showing a choice of options to create the folder. I don’t see how to get to that menu or option. How do I do that?

iOS and iPadOS don't do Smart Albums. Smart Albums are part of MacOS. ( In Photos, "Album" means things with pictures in them; "Folder" means things with Albums in them. )

If you want a list of pictures that are not in Albums, Yer_Man , a knowledgable fellow here, suggests that you check out HashPhotos

I see that it has those notorious "In-app Purchases" and subscriptions. I haven't used it-- I use my Mac. But Yer_Man seems pretty trustworthy.

This only makes sense if you only put pictures in one album each. But picture from the Library can be put in many albums. The picture of "Aunt Ethel at the Grand Canyon" can be in the "Aunt Ethel" album with other pictures of Aunt Ethel, and it can also be in the "Grand Canyon" album with pictures of other people at the Grand Canyon. And it can also be in the May 2018 album. This is very powerful in organizing pictures. If you could only choose from pictures that weren't in any albums, then you'd lose much of the power of Photos.

Thanks for replying. My purpose here is to get rid of unwanted pictures. Any pictures in an album, or multiple albums, I have made a decision that they are worth keeping. I want to see pictures that I haven’t yet decided whether to keep or not so I can clean things up every once in a while (and avoid having to pay for more iCloud storage).

Maybe there’s another way to do that?

Can you post a link to that thread so we can see what you're referring to?
