Why do I need to connect to home Wi-Fi for certain channels on my MacBook Pro?

Whatching cable TV on my laptop I started getting a message that I had to connect to my home wi-fi for certain channels that has never come up before. The Xfinity support tech told me I have a problem with my laptop. Everything else on wi-fi is fine.

I'm on a 5 y.o. MacBook Pro without any issues but this. I seemed to start when I knew they were doing repairs in my area. I just can't imagine that my laptop would control which channels are available...

Thank You

Sounds like a very Xfinity-specific problem. You might be better off asking this question in Xfinity's user support forum (I assume they have one). If nothing else, you are statistically more likely to find someone with a similar issue there, whereas I expect only a small percentage of people here are Xfinity users.
