Does AppleCare+ cover this on a MacBook Air?

So recently, my M2 MacBook Air suffered a fall off my desk, fell smack on the top of the screen assembly, and got two noticeable scratch marks (not thin lines, they're about 3-4mm wide), near the bottom.

I was looking online, and to replace it without AppleCare+, the price is almost half of the value of the computer. So I'm wondering, would AppleCare+ cover this incident? (Even for a small(er) service fee?)

It would have, subject to a deductible, but unless you purchased an AppleCare plan prior to the damage it would be like purchasing hazard insurance following an accident. Things don't work that way.

If the scratches are merely cosmetic in nature and the Mac is otherwise operational, consider them battle scars.
