Pedometer++ steps text on apple watch is now dark gray instead of white

I have updated software on both my iphone 14 and apple watch 9. I use the modular face with a black background. Until a few days ago, the steps numbers were visible in white text and now the text is dark gray. Unreadable on the black background and barely readable if I change to a brighter background color (which I don't want to do). The other complications on the watch are normal colors and readable. How do I get the steps text back to readability?

I was able to resolve this and get back the normal text colour by deselecting “show this app on my watch“ radio button on the iPhone watch app list, then re-selecting it. There was a re-authorization for the app to complete on the watch face and then it showed back up with normal text coloring.
