Why does my iPhone 12 mini turn black during the call?
why does my phone(12 mini) turn black when i put my hand close to the screen during a call, and if possible how do i turn this feature off?

Any chance you are covering the upper part of the screen with your hand?
In that case the proximity sensor will disable the screen to prevent accidental touches when you put the iPhone near your ear, like you would in a normal phone call.
This sensor can not be disabled.
Your screen will also be locked if in Settings/Display & Brightness/ Auto-Lock is set to a short period of time.
