Mac Studio M1 issues: HD space, Photoshop performance, and folder display problems

I hate this M1! It has been horrible since I purchased it. Now, apparently, I am out of HD space, even though I keep everything on external HDs. This machine will not run Photoshop and stream at the same time. I can only have one application running on it at a time. When I first bought it, I took it in twice. Both times, they reset the computer and assured me it was okay.

Now, after trying to clear items on the hard drive to free up space, my folders do not open properly. Images are stacked on top of one another, and even using different "sort" methods, I cannot get them to show up without being stacked.

Photoshop (All Creative Cloud apps) will not run basically at all. They run for a few minutes then all the tools quit working.

Has anyone had issues with this 2 year old mistake? Or does anyone have any pearls of wisdom? I have been through Creative Cloud support, who simply have me reinstall an older version of Photoshop.

Etrecheck:

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the System ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.

Use Etrecheck Pro for free:

Then PASTE the clipboard into a reply on the forums by clicking on the Additional Text icon in the reply footer:

Have you recently done a shut-down and reboot? That can be helpful.

My MacStudio M1 was purchased in May of 2023 and has been wonderful, runs photoshop elements trouble free. has a 4TB HD with 1.2TB used and lots of memory. All my software runs well. My situation appears simpler than yours too.

Your situation sounds like you do not enough RAM and HD space to accommodate your actions. What is filling up the HD? Usually your HD size should be near twice what you anticipate putting on it, in part to accommodate scratch files and app growth. Regular photoshop is a subscription program and streaming also is making demands on your internet connection, so is your internet connection have enough download capacity?
