Why is my Apple Watch not recording heart rate during workouts?

On this morning’s walk workout, and others in the past, the watch has not been recording the heart rate for the whole walk. In today’s case, only the last 40%. The band is tight and the back of the watch is clean and free of scratches.

Seems to be a common problem. Losing faith in the watch and Apple.

My watch loses the heart rate if I wear it not far enough from the wrist and it moves forward during the movement of the watch arm while walking, for example. But this also happens while riding my bicycle.

If I wear it 2cm further away from the wrist, it does record the heart rate without issues.

And of course, in colder weather it is harder for the sensor to detect the heart rate, if the watch is not completely covered by your sleeves and jacket.
