iMac password change fails with 'old password is incorrect' error

I am trying to change the password to enter my iMac. I follow directions and enter the old password and then enter the proposed new password and again in verify field. However when I then click change password, it tells me that may old password is incorrect. But it is not. That is what I use to log in every day.

What to do?

Password works on sign-in, but iMac says it's incorrect if I try to change it in settings I would like to change my sign-in password. But when I get into settings and enter my OLD/existing password plus the new one, I get an error message that says my current password is incorrect. I am logging in and out successfully with the current password...so I know it is not wrong! Any hints?

Password Issues with Macbook pro M4 I set up my new Macbook Pro M4 with a Password - only the wrong one for me I was having to enter this password so many times in setting up my new mac, I decided to re-set it to the one I wanted. That proved impossible because: Of course they don't match - they are not supposed to. So it looks as if there is a program bug in the Mew Macbook pro M4 operating system (macOS Sequoia) V 15.2 (24C101). So I tried a workaround and deleted my password altogether. SO there is just no password for this new Mac npw. Great. That speeded up my setting it up. Now I want to do exactly what I wanted to do in the first place - create a password for the new Mac, but this time with the password I actually want. And of course I hit exactly the same issue (remember there isn't a password for the machine, so I can leave the Old password field blank)›. When I do that and enter the new password I get this: The same issue - and before anyone asks - if I enter the original password (the one I deleted) of course I get the error that The password is incorrect. So can someone verify this is a programming bug in Sequoa? And if so, verify that there is no way to to fix it until Apple gets aroung to fixing the code? Thanks Guys

Confirm Mac password not working on iMac desktop after login password was changed I changed the login password on my IMac desktop computer and I am now getting the message to confirm Mac password. When I click on continue the computer just sets there until a message pops up asking for my Apple ID. I enter that and I then get a message saying there was an error connecting to the Apple ID server. Help please as I am dead in the water.

The first thing I would attempt is restarting in Safe Mode to clear any corrupt caches. Then attempt to restart normally and execute the steps in If you forgot your Mac login password
