Compact budget iPhone recommendations

I was looking forward to buy an iPhone 13 mini in September from refurbished section or at least SE 3 but now both of this options are not available anymore or any other SE or Mini model at this size or price. My question is what should I do if 6.1” is too big for me? Thanks

I understand that it’s not available for now. That’s why I wrote here to find a solution to this problem. There is preordering for 16e so why for instance there is no similar preordering or waiting list for Mini or SE3 so when somebody will trade it in it will go to refurbished section but I (or other people like me) can buy it

There's a pre-ordering list for the 16e because it is a model that Apple plans to carry full-time. For however long Apple wants to keep selling it, they will manufacture as many as needed to meet demand.

Certified Refurbished stock is "catch of the day". There's no guaranteed supply of any Refurbished model. For the most part, if Apple runs out of a particular model, they're not going to fire up a production line to make sure that they can supply more of the same model. If they get more, so be it. If they never do, so be that – too.

I don’t understand why SE 3 had to be canceled now if 16e is “a newest member of 16 family” and has nothing to do with SE?

Apple doesn't tell us "why', but the iPhone SE (3rd generation) was a "price point" model in its later years – and the iPhone 16e is also a "price point" model. Apple discontinued one "price point" model at the very same time that they introduced another. Coincidence?

Every manufacturer stopped making compact phones because they didn't sell.

One of the biggest selling points of a smart phone is the screen, including screen size.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being honest and practical.

Apple isn't going to make anymore mini phones, you want a small phone. Therefore your option is to buy a brand that suits your needs.

There is preordering for 16e so why for instance there is no similar preordering or waiting list for Mini or SE3 so when somebody will trade it in it will go to refurbished section but I (or other people like me) can buy it from there without missing it cause there is still no any notifications which iPhone appears on refurbished page and it’s very easy to miss it as I said.

I see, you’re right those two models I’m talking about is not available but it could possibly become available on refurbished section. The last mini was there on August 2024. And where all SE 3 are going now? They was available literally 3-4 days ago? It’s just sad SE 3 was totally good device it’s not fair to take away something and not give anything equal instead. Apple was the only company that cared about customers like me at least I thought so.

OK so how else can I let Apple know that I want to buy one of this model I’m talking about? Don’t they care at all? It’s not like I’m getting it for free. For instance you trade in mini and I want one and now Apple knows OK this one will go to the customer from the waiting list cause this person is already waiting for it to buy, not just might buy. Is it that hard to do? Also it’s not like Tim will personally do it. Some moderators definitely can do this waiting list or something like that. Do you have any suggestions if my idea is not good?

about coincidence, I would say sad mistake (at least for me) cause 16e is a part of 16 line not SE line. There is nothing from SE in this phone not a size not even a name. And it’s very misleading to compare those two iPhones. It’s the same as saying that 13 mini is from SE line cause it’s smaller and kind of looks like an SE first gen more than as 13. Which is not true cause 13 mini is a small version of 13 yet 16e is nothing like SE phones

A little update. Apple placed 5 13 minis this week so I finally got one. I’m very happy and hope it will serve me for many years.

Thanks Apple for this opportunity (I know moderators are reading those discussions) 🙂

You didn’t see my update. I bought 13 mini from Apple refurbished section this week. There were 5 of them. So I’m very happy and I don’t believe that 5.4” is so mini especially for me after 4” iPhone.

I'm glad you got the phone you're happy with. In the movie Field of Dreams, they said......"If you build it, they will come." So Apple built small phones and not enough people came to buy one to make it profitable. If something doesn't sell well, you stop selling it. The fact is, people want larger screens, not smaller screens. So you build and sell what most people want. Simple economics.
