DRM does not work on safari's Macbook m4 pro.

On safari I login to video streaming service such as netflix, amazon prime, vodafone TV but I always get an error related to DRM. This happens on my new Macbook M4 Pro without an external monitor. I tried on safe mode to make sure no software affects the DRM but I got the same errors.

On my Macbook with M3 Pro everything works.

Software:

  • macOS(15.3.1 )
  • Safari (18.3).

Errors:

  • Netflix Error: S7706 (DRM related)
  • Amazon Prime Error: We're experiencing a problem playing this video
  • Vodafone TV Error: WV1863 (DRM related)

Any ideas what could be the problem ? Could it be a hardware problem ?

I just gave Netflix a try with my Mac Mini M4 (15.3.1) using Safari 18.3 and it came right up and worked fine. Therefore, I don't think that it's anything that is not supported.

According to Netflix (https://help.netflix.com/en/node/115567) that error (S7706) seems to be something related to browser data (cache or cookies). Have you tried clearing caches per that article?

You may also want to put your two Mac's side-by-side and go through Safari's settings to see if something is different. Also, look at the Websites pane of Safari's settings, click through each of the items on the left column, looking for Netflix to be listed on the right. If you find specific settings for Netflix, select it and click "remove" to set that site back to the defaults.
