Trade in iPad 64gb 10th generation for 256gb one

Hi everyone!

I recently bought an iPad (10th generation 64gb) in late December. I genuinely have hardly used it since I bought it. Now I'd like to purchase the 256gb one... Would it be possible for me to trade it in for a new iPad and just pay the remaining amount?

I would appreciate your responses thanks!

Hi Jessy.

Apple's trade-in programme does not accept current-models. As such, until your iPad is superseded, trade-in won't be an option. When trade-in does become an option, the potential value will be significantly less than you paid.

As such, selling your unwanted iPad privately will likely be the only way to recover a significant proportion of the purchase cost - which you can put towards the purchase of a different iPad model.

You can verify eligibility for trade-in and, where applicable, obtain an estimate of the potential trade-in value here:

Apple Trade In - Apple

Be aware that trade-in values are always considerably lower than the original purchase price. For devices purchased directly from Apple, in most countries/regions you have up to 14-days to unconditionally return an unwanted item for exchange or refund - this providing opportunity to exchange a device for an alternative, with greater internal storage, for just the cost difference. This opportunity lasts for only 14-days.

This is a user-to-user forum. I don't speak for Apple, but I believe that

  • If you purchased the iPad directly from Apple themselves, you would have had 14 days to return the iPad for a full refund. You could have returned the 64 GB iPad, gotten a refund, and then bought a 256 GB one.
  • It's too late for that now.

As far as I know, Apple doesn't accept current models for their trade-in program.

Well that's a bummer... but thank you for your response, I appreciate it!

You're very welcome - although this was clearly not what you hoping to learn.

Apple's unconditional return/exchange/refund is remarkably generous - but, unsurprisingly, is not open-ended. The returns policy allows a full 14-days to determine suitability of a product for your needs - at no risk.
