Ideally, you could untick songs. They stay in your library, but don't play when you try to play that album, skipping over unloved album tracks. But if I untick things, it doesn't sync through to devices, so it's kind of pointless these days?

There is no such thing as a ticked song on the iPhone and there never was. It is only a feature on the Mac and does skip the song when playing there. If you want to add the ticked song feature to the iPhone, then you can send feedback here:
