I connected my iPhone to my Mac with a cable. I want to start a backup to my Mac but the selection is greyed out. How can I activate the Back up all the data on your iPhone to this Mac? Thank you.

Thanks for the followup, yes, you can’t both sync and back up at the same time.
You might want to uncheck “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected”; then you have a choice of syncing or backing up.

You probably need to unlock your iPhone.
I was able to access the option after the iPhone finished the synchronisation.
