How to fix silent alarm issue after iOS update on iPhone 15 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10?

After the most recent iOS update the alarm that I’ve had set for over 10 years ceases to alarm. This occurs both on my iPhone 15 pro and my watch series 10. What’s strange: the alarm is actually going off but fails to make any sounds, nor taps on my wrist (haptics?). I’ve witnessed it asking me if I’d like to snooze, but again no sound, no taps, nothing.

I’ve tried all the google suggestions:

  • turning off DND (the amount of notifications is quite annoying)
  • Disabling attention aware feature
  • checking to ensure that an alarm is actually set correctly and enabled (see the top/10+ years)

I am a diabetic and I get alarms with my Dexcom cgm leading me to believe that this in fact a bug in the latest update. This isn’t too problematic at home but I travel to different time zones frequently and that is the bugger. I’ve resorted to hotel alarms.

I’m all about continuous improvement but regression must’ve been missed and I’d kindly ask, Apple Engineers: please fix.

Same issue here I leave my phone on silent/DNS but still need my alarms to go off and vibrate with notifications. Simple fix that I did not expect to have to do. Go to settings>>sounds and haptics>>ringtones and alerts. If you are like me, the volume is already all the way up. To fix issue you have to actually move the volume to play a sound, reminding the phone this is what the user wants and at this volume. You can then put back to max volume and problem should be fixed. Worked for me with alarms, but spam calls have not roled in yet to know if it fixed the vibrating while on silent mode. Hope this helps everyone! Update, phone also vibrates when getting calls.

Thanks for your attempt. I think you may have missed the scope of the problem and possibly caught up on my statement about this being a possible bug. My suggestion/feedback would be to focus on the scope of the user’s issue, versus what they may attribute the problem to. Your response quality contains too many rabbit holes when I simply am looking for a fix. Nonetheless I appreciate your attempt but since you’ve amassed quite a support following, leave your assumptions on the door and listen/hear your customer.

I ended up calling Apple support this morning and they said they’ve had several calls regarding the alarm issue so sounds like a bug in the new operating system. She said the engineers are looking into it so hopefully there will be a fix soon.

In regards to the podcast issue (endless buffering), seems as if I was the first one to call about it but it must also be because of the new operating system. I’m also waiting for a bug fix for that.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

HELP! Downloaded the newest operating system last night. My alarm didn’t make a sound this morning, although once I woke up the screen appeared as if the alarm was going off, and I overslept. I just tried the above suggestions but still can’t get the alarm to make a sound, even with silent mode off. It’s still silent as can be, although on the screen it appears to be going off. I have an early morning flight coming up and need my alarm to actually “alarm”!!! I think Apple needs to do a fix ASAP!

Thank you for sharing your solution. I’m happy to report that this worked for me, as I was pleasantly surprised by the taps on my wrist this am. Crazy enough the local news (CBS 2 Chicago) ran a story about this issue that a friend shared with me. I’ve sent them a note with this very solution (just tap the volume up).

It was reported that Apple is investigating as another poster had mentioned. I’m guessing that as a part of the update process some sort of user caching was cleared. I remind all viewers (especially the moderator) that the alarm was going off just not alerting other than on-screen, but no haptics or sound. This would classify it as a bug, but this software developer does not care to look as I only require a solution.

So do what User_8675 says above and TURN IT UP TO 11 to get your alarm back ;)
