Need Help Finding a Way to Download Final Cut Pro 10.6.10

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using an iMac Pro (2017) running macOS Ventura, and I need to install Final Cut Pro 10.6.10 as it's the last fully compatible version for my system.

Unfortunately, I updated to a newer version, and now I’m facing performance issues since some features are optimized for Apple silicon. I would like to revert to 10.6.10, but I can’t find an official way to download it.

Does anyone know if there’s an official Apple link or a method to install Final Cut Pro 10.6.10 from the Mac App Store? I’d really appreciate any guidance or solutions!

Thanks in advance!

There is no official way to download a specific previous version that I'm aware of. You might ask on the fcp dot cafe discussions to see if anyone there has suggestions.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no otherwise you wouldn't be posting for help, but you don't have a TimeMachine backup or any other form of backups? It doesn't help now, but best practice is to always zip up the current version of FCP before updating just in case something goes wrong.

As an addition to terryb's excellent reply: one can only dowload the last version for the OS the is being run.

I can't find any definite list matching each OS version to the last FCP version that runs on it.

Now if, for example, 10.6.10 were the last version for Monterey, for example, then you could install this OS on an external drive, login to the App Store in this OS and retriece 10.6.10. But I can't say if 10.6.10 was the cut point for some particular OS. I know that 10.6.5 was the cut point for Big Sur, and I am pretty sure that Monterey can run 10.6.10, but probably also 10.7.

Which version of FCP are you currently using? What problems are you experiencing with it?

FWIW, I used all the versions up to and including FCP 11, on an Intel Mac, and even though there were features that were not supported, I never had any major issues.

Maybe the issues you are experiencing with 10.7 or other version can be resolved.

Often problems result from other software causing trouble.

Glad it’s working fine for you! While macOS Sonoma (14) runs on the iMac Pro, macOS Ventura (13) is the better choice for photography and videography. It offers better stability, optimized performance, and full compatibilitywith Adobe Photoshop 2025 and Final Cut Pro 10.6.5 on Intel Xeon Macs.

Sonoma may introduce slowdowns on older Intel systems, so for pro users needing absolute reliability, Ventura (latest 13.x) remains the safest option.
