How do I fix hypersensitive keyboard and unpredictable mouse cursor on MacBook Pro M1?

Have a MacBook Pro Chip Apple M1 Sequoia 15.3.1

When I type, the keyboard is hypersensitive. I must keep a diligent eye on the screen or else the mouse somehow starts typing in the middle of another part of the screen. Slows productivity. My most reliable way of typing is now to 'hunt and peck' If my finger barely brushes another part of the keyboard, the mouse ends up in an unpredictable area of the screen. Not good if I am taking down information while with a client, or working on a document with a deadline, or taking notes while watching a streaming lecture.

Recently typed again on one of my older macbooks pros. Keyboard was so comfortable, and I could type 90 words/minute without worrying about the mouse straying. Now with the latest technology I'm lucky to type 35 words/minute. Sure, I can still type 90 words/minute, but if I do so on this latest MacBook pro, everything gets totally jumbled because the mouse cursor seems to have a mind of its own, and ends up typing elsewhere mid-sentence, then changes again mid sentence, and on and on until I realize what is happening, then go back and correct things, and slow way way down,

Have tried slowing down the mouse responses to slowest settings. helps a little, but I still have the problem. Anything else to adjust?

Thank you!!!

I changed the Trackpad click option to 'light'
While I was at it, also changed the tracking speed to 'slow'

Things are so much better. If this holds up, I think the issue is solved.
Actually have been living with this problem a long time. Am grateful for this solution.

Thank you!!

Interesting — you would have though if the issue was accidentally landing (touching) on the Track pad as your issue, that you would want to set it to heavy...(?)

What ever works best for you was the suggestion... I am glad it worked.

you can try changing the track pad click sensitivity...

or give yourself time to adapt to the new machine

I've experience the same thing on my MacBook Air. I chalk it up to me being just a little lazy (relaxed?) with my hand position as I type and letting my thumbs or brush the trackpad. I don't believe it's a problem with the keyboard but more a problem of a very sensitive touchpad.
