Apple TV not turning on Samsung TV

I know what the Apple Engineers need to change to make Siri Remote turn on a Samsung TV after being off for a long time ..

1) change the “On” small button on top right of Siri Remote to IR wake-up, not CEC = exactly like the Samsung Remote.

2) when the Samsung is off for a long time, it goes into “deep sleep” in which case, pressing the “ On” will not do anything when set to CEC wake-up. However, when set to IR wake-up, it will wake up the TV like the Samsung Remote.

3) given IR, the TV setting = CEC will turn on the ATV device

Apple staff can take your suggestion, but those people are not the high level decision makers. The latter may think that other developments have higher priority, or that a universal approach takes much more differentiation than what your specific setup may require. They may not like making changes for one third party brand only. If your suggestion works on some TVs but not others, then it wouldn’t be a viable solution that Apple can market. The beauty of CEC is that it is a common language for all brands. Samsungs’s two states of sleep may even be proprietary. Apple only promises to read (or listen to) your suggestion. Implementation is a whole different aspect.

Does anyone recommend that I purchase the totally new ATV with matching remote?

I don’t think that would make a difference. The remote has upgradeable firmware, so just keep the tvOS software up-to-date, and the remote software should tag along with any changes they implement for that.

Part of the “elevator music” we face when calling Tech Support are the words “We’re here to help .. please treat us with respect”. This admonition apparently does not mean I should be treated with respect.

For a month now, I have detailed the above “turn on the TV” problem. Twice they collected diagnostics and presumably forwarded them to the Apple Engineers. Nothing has happened except problem avoidance and zero solution.

“Think”??

How can you upgrade an old ATV with HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 on the new ATV without buying a new device?

You wasted 1 hour providing a litany of excuses instead of just forwarding my detailed FREE solution to the engineers.

I have zero interest in your pathetic excuses. I deal only with results.

Should I ask you to list 5 things you did today:

I obfuscated five customers in order to avoid solving their problem
